AHMED FARID - Another Story

Curated by Diego Faa

The book Ahmed Farid. Another Story was created with the aim of deepening the research path of Ahmed Farid, through the analysis of the fundamental stages that have allowed the artist to quickly establish himself as one of the most influential Egyptian painters of contemporary art. Fifteen years after the first monographic exhibitions, the volume, entirely edited and coordinated by Professor Diego Faa of Florence, is divided into eight chapters arranged chronologically that retrace the fundamental stages of Farid’s artistic activity: from the first experiments, to the public exhibitions, from the experiences in his homeland, to the projects abroad, from the Florentine studies, to the successes at international auctions. Born in 1950 in Cairo, Ahmed Farid is a self-taught painter who trained artistically with the example of the great Egyptian masters, observed and studied in the light of those American and European pictorial investigations that, during the many trips undertaken during his life, he had the opportunity to admire and study with great attention. It is precisely from this meeting between two cultures so far apart that Farid was able to shape an original language in perfect balance between suggestions of Arab origin and echoes of abstract expressionism. His arrival in the world of contemporary art came at a mature age, but success was lightning-fast and in a short time he managed to achieve great recognition both in terms of exhibitions and the market. This work aims to represent a moment of reflection on the path and objectives achieved by the artist, through a narrative style addressed not only to those who are used to reading and interpreting contemporary languages, but open to comparison even with those who usually find it difficult to open a satisfactory dialogue with non-figurative art.
